Prepping for Polar Bears
Let the countdown to polar bear season begin! As the migration of western Hudson Bay polar bears draws closer, so does the launch of the Polar Bear Cam on Explore.org around late October.
Live-streaming wildlife may seem simple enough, but when you are in the sub-Arctic, outside of a small and isolated town, and on the coast of the windy and treacherously cold Hudson Bay, things can get pretty tricky! We have some kinks to work out before launch date, but the staff at Polar Bears International and Frontiers North are busy every day making sure that our broadcasts will be high quality: even if the people are freezing, the Internet shouldn’t be!
We are also planning our live, informational broadcasts in which scientists will be joining us for live expert chats. Be sure to let us know what topics you are interested in – post a comment below.
We will be blogging weekly about preparations up north, what the polar bears are doing, and what we can expect to see this season. Stayed tuned and help us ring in the new season!
