Pretty As A Penny- That’s Me!

This is Penny, the last girl pup in Holly’s Half Dozen Angel Litter. Penny is much like her mother Holly; intelligent and sweet. We received two stories for the name submission “Penny.” This first story is from Jan Hobbs:

“When I was born (eons ago), my parents owned a 5 year old black cocker spaniel named Penny. This dog adored me so much so that when I began kindergarten, Penny would walk me to school every morning and return to walk me home, every day at noon. How she knew what time to be back, I’ll never know. Sadly it was her dedication to keeping me, her human, safe, that cost Penny her life. As she was crossing the street to wait for me on the last day of her life, a speeding driver struck her, sending her soaring. My kindergarten teacher saw it happen, called my parents to let them know what had happened, and didn’t let any of us kids leave until they had collected her. I am 54 years old, and the loss of Penny still makes my heart ache, 49 years later.”

This next Penny story came from Nicole Aceves:

“I’ve always been a sick kid…pretty much from birth (thankfully things have gotten better for the most part), and I’ve always had a dog, normally my parents’ dogs. Penny, however, attempted to follow me home the first time I saw her as a puppy. Not only was she one of the 2 pups that survived in her litter, but she was a constant companion and caring soul for me when I was sick. She’d stay by my side when I didn’t feel well, could go get my mom when told, was always there when I was sad or upset the moment I felt it. There’s no possible way to say everything she was or explain everything she did. Sadly, she’s no longer alive, but even today I’ll never forget her as my best girl and my lucky Penny. It would mean a lot if one of your pups could help someone else like she helped me and carry on her name.”
