John James Audubon’s Birthday And The First Egg Has Arrived!

At 2:48AM EST on a clear Maine night under the full moon Rachel laid her first egg. We are excited to see Rachel and Steve start their family, and we can look forward to another egg or two within the next three or so days.

The egg, which emerges as a clean pale orb, forms spots within the first few hours. Over the course of the next weeks both Rachel and Steve will switch off roles protecting, warming, and nurturing their brood.
