Polar Bears International has been capturing glorious high-definition footage from the Tundra Buggy. Check out this clip of a polar bear roaming the tundra in search of food. Polar bears’ meal of choice is the ringed seal whose thick blubber is protein and energy rich. The bears stalk the seals over the sea ice, often hovering around breathing holes for their prey to emerge.
Before the Hudson Bay freezes, however, the polar bears are forced to roam the land looking for any food intake they can, from vegetation to eggs to carcasses. None of these provide the necessary nutrients that ringed seals do, so the polar bears must wait until the ice forms. In the following video a polar bear forages for a snack in the brilliant orange sunlight. Check it out!
