Join us today at 5pm ET / 2pm PT as we chat live with “Walrus Wardens” Ben Histand and Ryan Morrill, the Round Island Research Managers and experts behind explore’s new Walrus Cam!
Round Island is a 1-mile wide Alaskan island packed with summering walruses, all males, who will spend the season laying around the beaches and diving for clams. Ryan and Ben have been sharing their knowledge and photos of the beaching behemoths since the beginning of the “Summer of Blubber”, and now’s your chance to ask them your walrus questions, live! Where are the female walruses during the summer? Why do the Round Island walruses sing or “chime”? Do they fight for territory along the beach?
These and more of your questions will be answered if you go to the Walrus Cam at 5pm ET, type your questions in the comments section below the live cam player, and listen in as Ryan and Ben answer you live. Due to the bandwidth limitations associated with being on such a remote island, the live chat will be audio only, but there will be hundreds of sunbathing walruses to watch while we learn! Tune in.
