Diane Poloczek’s Polar Bear Story

We’ve gotten all manners of great works of art from viewers like you for our Share Your Polar Bear Story! Diane Poloczek of Toronto has elevated the game with a series of haiku. Haiku are non-rhyming poems of Japanese origin typically having three lines containing five, seven, and five syllables respectively.

Diane tells us, “I am very inspired by this contest.  What a great outlet for all ages! As a species undergoing great stresses in nature, the polar bear lends itself as a noble subject to the arts.  I find writing in Haiku a fitting framework for themes of nature.

Haiku #1:
White shadow at sea,
Responds to changes in Earth,
U. maritimus.

Haiku #2:
I sniff the damp air
To sense who’s been on my floe,
A trespassing bear!

Haiku #3:
Whitefish or salmon,
Or other delicacy?
Not ringed seal again!

Cheers,
Diane Poloczek”
