The above photo is a good example of educated dogs of all ages – from the 7-week-old pups to 12-year-old Bailey (white center) – being watched over by the very polite current daddy, Bentley (on the right).
Bentley is extremely polite, not by nature, but education by grandma Chaos (top next to Laura’s elbow). Chaos carefully taught him if he tried to dine before his wives and children, great would be her wrath. So he waits for his own spoonful when his name is called.
In some species the strongest and most dominant eat first. This does not seem to be true in this family group. Personally, I remember in my family father would remind us not to eat until mother had taken the O.B. ”the Official Bite”. I always thought that was to remind us to be respectful of the person who cooked for us.
I was not a student of history, but later I found the “Official Bite” was taken by the cook to prove the pot was not poisoned.
