Explore welcomes two new pandas to Old Leopard Mountain and Giant Panda cams! Camera operator Lee Morris introduces us to them:
On Old Leopard Mountain, you can see Wu Gang. An old friend of long-time cam viewers, he was in this same yard from April 16 until November 17, 2013. He has a trademark pink nose and his head is sort of pointed at the top. It looks like he has a mohawk hair style. He was rescued in the wild in 1999 and is 15 years old now. Wu Gang is a proven natural breeder and has many offspring. You may know Yun Hui, Su Lin`s first born son and the grandson of Bai Yun and Gao Gao at the San Diego Zoo, Yun Duo who was on the Toddler cam in 2013, Feng Yi who is now in Malaysia, and Wu Jie who is in Singapore.
On the Giant Pandas of Bifengxia Cam comes Mei Sheng, born at the San Diego Zoo on August 19, 2003, the first son of Bai Yun and Gao Gao, who are still in San Diego. This is the first time we’ve featured him on an explore cam and are so happy to see him.
Mei Sheng is a climber. When he was first moved to China, to the Wolong Panda Base, he climbed out of his enclosure and ended up fighting with the panda next door. He was moved to Bifengxia where he couldn’t do that. He still likes to climb, though.
