Zoo Atlanta Celebrates Po’s 2nd Birthday
/ post by Pandas International
Zoo Atlanta Staff celebrated the final Panda birthday of the year and, according to zookeeper Jen, they saved the best for last – the 2nd birthday of the zoo’s youngest Panda, Po. In keeping with Chinese tradition, he was not named until after his 100th day of life. He was named for the beloved character voiced by Jack Black in the DreamWorks animated movie “Kung Fu Panda”. DreamWorks has also given money to Zoo Atlanta to offset panda conservation effort expenses.
Po’s mother, Lun Lun, gave birth to the tiny cub in the early morning of Nov. 3, 2010. Po now weighs more than 100 pounds, and he’s covered with black and white fur in the characteristic panda patterns.
To celebrate the special occasion, Po received some special presents in hand painted boxes (compliments of his keepers) and his very own ice cake designed by Jen. The multi-tiered cake was filled with treats and colored water for the little guy.
