At Warrior Canine Connection, puppies train with clinicians, usually social workers and occupational therapists, as well as veterans who suffer from PTSD or post-traumatic brain injury. In addition to basic skills, the dogs learn how to recognize when someone is under stress. Eventually, they will be able to wake up a handler from nightmares, as well as calm down a person in a stressful situation. It only takes a few months to train the dogs, but Warrior Canine Connection typically doesn’t put them into service until they are between 18 months and two years old.
