Making a Splash! On the Africa Cams
Some ever diligent explore community members teamed up with the cam operator to capture this awesome moment of a young Hippo taking a dive into the river!
What a great example of how surprisingly ‘athletic’ Hippos are, and how agile they can be. It goes to show that you never know what you might see on any given day at the river!

Did You Know? “Hippos are graceful in water, good swimmers, and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. However, they are often large enough to simply walk or stand on the lake floor, or lie in the shallows. Their eyes and nostrils are located high on their heads, which allows them to see and breathe while mostly submerged,” (NatGeo).
