Happy Fourth Of July!
Today, while America celebrates its birthday, Project Puffin celebrates the anniversary of its success.
Thirty-one years ago today, Stephen Kress saw the first puffin returning to Eastern Egg Rock with fish in its bill. This meant that years and years of research and rehabilitation efforts had succeeded: the puffin was bringing fish back to its chick, and puffins were once again breeding off the Maine coast.
Steve had been waiting for that moment for eight years.
Here’s to years of continued success for Project Puffin and the Seabird Restoration Program!
