The reason they are so helpful is that donkeys do not take chances with anything – particularly their footing. They will stop and stand rather than risk any change in their path, such as puddles or ice.
Some people interpret this as being stubborn when in fact it is just the donkey’s nature to try to understand his surroundings before moving. Once they understand they are far more reliable than a horse. A horse gets in trouble obeying commands, thinking that there is such a thing as human intelligence. A donkey is not so foolish to believe anyone except another donkey.”
