Grizzlies, Brown Bears and Kodiaks are basically the same bear. “The grizzly, coastal, and European brown bear are all the same species, and the Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi), is a subspecies inhabiting the Kodiak archipelago.” Grizzlies get their name “because of the common silver-tipped hairs that lend a grizzled appearance.”
