Arthur And Lazarus
Arthur Hilliard enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 2005. In September of 2009, while conducting training in Twentynine Palms, Calif., he was injured, sustaining brain and spinal injuries. He is currently at his home awaiting his medical discharge orders. His service dog Lazarus, trained by Canines for Veterans, has changed Arthur’s life already. For one thing, just two days into team training, Arthur left his cane behind and has not used it since. He uses Lazarus as his support. Arthur is interacting more with people when out in public, telling about his service dog when asked, and even went shopping for his wife’s birthday present; a first in several years.
