Rachel and Steve Mate in Hog Island, Maine

A Look Back at Love: Rachel and Steve

Most Ospreys are faithful year after year, and these two give us reason to believe in love… in bird love anyway. Our Osprey Live Cam – – live again in spring – – has allowed us to follow their multiple broods. Despite attempts by other females to intervene, Rachel and Steve have been going strong for several years. In just 10 weeks, our Osprey lovers, Rachel and Steve, lay, incubate, hatch and fledge their chicks every year in Bremen, Maine. Watch from Shell to Sky to see the process in time lapse. Listen to Dr. Steve Kress (the original Steve) describe what makes this area so special for the Osprey couple and The Audubon Society. These birds of a feather really know how to compliment each other. From Rachel’s fierce guarding of the eggs to Steve’s penchant for nest decoration, they make family life work.
