Ever wonder what happens under the ocean during a hurricane or major oceanic storm? The people at the University of Miami would have a pretty good idea.
During a hurricane, the rain and winds affect the temperature, salinity and level of the sea. In addition to all the rough tides, this can cause a lot of havoc down below. Although certain creatures are better equipped to handled it.
In particular, sharks, “large self-propelled marine animals… seem to be minimally affected, since they can detect tiny changes in pressure as larger waves at the surface approach, as well as the reduced surface pressure associated with the storm itself, and go deeper or leave the area.”
