Terns, terns, terns.
That’s what our Seal Island team has been focusing on for the last few days! They have done tern band re-sighting, tern productivity, and tern trapping.
As volunteer Nicholas said after one day last week, “It was nice to finally get a full day’s bird work in. In the evening we went on a puffin geolocator (aka Geopuff) expedition. Our bounty was a return of one logger. Hopefully it will tell us where the puffin it was attached to went over the winter. We also had a few visitors today. A flotilla of birders showed up in the afternoon to try to get a peek at our resident Red-billed Tropic bird, known as Troppee by Seal Island residents.”
We’ll be adding updates about “Troppee” soon! In the meantime, check out intern Emily in the middle of a blind stint!
