Can Polar Bears Be Saved?

If you had a chance to talk with a polar bear scientist, that’s probably the first question you’d ask. And that’s why we’re inviting you to meet our chief scientist, Dr. Steven Amstrup, and join the conversation via a live webcast tomorrow, Tuesday, October 2.

Steve knows a thing or two about polar bears. He spent 30 years researching them in the wild and was recently honored with the 2012 Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for animal conservation.

During the live, interactive webcast, Steve will talk about why polar bear habitat is disappearing, his battle to help protect polar bears under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, and why he sacrificed his research career to help save these giants of the Arctic. The broadcast will also include a video biography of Steve and his decades-long work with polar bears.

We can’t think of a better way to prepare for the return of the wild Polar Bear Cam in Churchill, polar bear capital of the world, than to meet and talk with Steve. The webcasts will air on October 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT and are presented by the Indianapolis Prize and Ball State University.
