It’s a double zen day with our Lake Tahoe Live Cam. We couldn’t pass up a capture of the sunset yesterday at 4:23 p.m. Can you see the white caps and crevices on the pink, back-lit mountain peaks?

The Lake Tahoe Basin is divided by the Nevada-California State line, with about one-third of the basin in Nevada and two-thirds in California.

The basin is surrounded by mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the west and the Carson Range to the east.

With an average surface elevation of 6,225 ft (1,897 m) above sea level, Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States.
