Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth

Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth and amazing, nation-changing life in the USA. He was born on January 15, 1929 and today would be 84-years-old. Dr. King was assassinated in  April 4, 1968, but his legacy lives on and his life forever changed the course of this nation to be better, closer to equal and above all, free.

MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered from the Lincoln Memorial steps in Washington, DC to a crowd of 200,000 Civil Rights supporters on August 28, 1963. His speech called for equality for all and an end to racism, and became a landmark moment for the American Civil Rights Movement.

Dr. King finished his famous speech with: “And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”
