It’s officially summer and that means the beluga whales are returning to the Churchill River! We’d like to introduce you to our new Boat Captain and Guide to Beluga Season, Hayley Shephard.
Hayley has extensive experience as an adventurer and expedition leader, spanning the Arctic to Antarctica. She’s worked for years as a guide Churchill, Manitoba, and her incredible knowledge, enthusiasm, and relationships with the locals in Churchill will help make this Beluga Cam season even better than the last.
The countdown is on for the Beluga Cam launch day, approximately July 22. Adding to the anticipation is the new technology from explore.org that will allow Hayley to be your LIVE virtual guide: she will be able to address the viewers in real-time as she sees exciting events unfold, including the many polar bear sightings already this year due to the early ice break-up in Hudson Bay.
Stay tuned for introductory blogs and videos of Hayley and the Polar Bears International crew as they head to Churchill to get themselves, and the boat, prepped for the season. We’ll be talking to beluga experts, marine mammal specialists, and those who call Churchill home both before the launch and throughout the summer. See you there!
