Soup’s On!

It’s supper time… and breakfast time and lunch time… all the time on the Osprey Live Cam! Steve is busy keeping his full nest fed. Did you know that Osprey chicks need up to 6 lbs of food a day?

Osprey’s are excellent fishermen with water resistant feathers and large talons. Ospreys are known as fish hawks because 99.9% of their diet is live fish. Sometimes Osprey capture several small fish from a school in a single dive. The largest Osprey catch on record is four pounds, but most fish are 1-2 lb. They are also known to rarely eat small mammals, snakes, turtles, frogs, sandpipers, and ducks, perhaps when fish are scarce.

Tune in today and meet the Osprey crew. They’re a bit wobbly, but every day, clearly growing stronger and in less than two months, the chicks will take to the skies and learn to fish on their own!
