Snowball Fight!

With only a few days or short weeks left before heading out to sea, the remaining gray seal pups are making the most of the weather on Seal Island.

Some Fast Facts of the Gray Seal Season:

  • Gray seals are only found in the North Atlantic Ocean.
  • Most gray seals return to where they were born to have their own pups.
  • In the Northwest Atlantic, gray seals give birth Dec. – Feb.
  • Gray seals molt their fur every year. The molt occurs in March-April in the northwest Atlantic.
  • Once mature (4-6 years), female gray seals give birth to a single pup per year for the duration of their life (up to 30 years!).
