Last August, a hunter in Celje, Slovenia shot a roe deer. That itself isn’t particularly unusual. What’s different about this case is the slain deer’s resemblance to a unicorn.
According to National Geographic, the buck has an antler deformity believed to the result of an earlier injury. It is an incredibly uncommon phenomenon, so much so that a scientist studying the case, Boštjan Pokomy, says that he never saw something quite like this. The scientist explains to National Geographic that the male deer would normally have two antlers. So does this one, but, in this unusual instance, the two antlers essentially grew into one.
