Pup With A Higher Purpose

From 8 weeks to roughly 13 months of age, Future Leader Dog Brennan jetted across the country enjoying quiet museums, working in crowded theme parks, and romping in Michigan’s winter wonderland, all with the goal of preparing to lead and serve. After raising several assistance dogs for other organizations, puppy raiser and full-time student Kayla Dever, assisted by her own three-dog crew, decided to raise a guide dog for Leader Dog. They were matched with the very serious puppy Brennan, who initially slept a lot. After months of exposure to Dever’s demanding class schedule, long study sessions at Barnes and Noble, and constant playtime with three high-energy dogs, Brennan became a well-socialized, happy, energetic Lab. When asked how she could give him up, Kayla proudly states, “…he has a higher purpose. He is to be someone’s eyes, someone’s ticket to the world. He is going to give someone the freedom I have in my own life. He will be so much more than a dog to someone. How could I possibly be so selfish as to not let him go, and fulfill that destiny?” Future Leader Dog Brennan started training at the Leader Dog campus on September 12 and has been assigned to Apprentice Instructor Rebbie Seifers.
