Dog Bless Us, Everyone

Stop us if you’ve heard this one. A llama, a priest, and a rabbi walk into a church. No joke. Alpacas joined dogs, cats, pigs and many other pets to receive a blessings by Roman Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Rabbi Peter J. Rubenstein, and Minister Stephen Bauman at the Christ Church United Methodist parish in Manhattan this past weekend.

From the CBSNews Story: “The furry faithful included five members of the New York Police Department’s canine unit and several police horses. They were led in by New York Police Commissioner William Bratton. Most of about 100 animals came with their owners, starting with a procession up the center aisle. But some arrived looking for love – and a home. They were offered for adoption, waiting in back of the church.”

2014 marks the 6th year for the multi-denominational Blessing of the Animals tradition.
