Census on Seal

Our Seal Island team has been hard at work! This week they conducted a gull census, which involved roaming over most of the island in search of Great Black-Backed Gull and Herring Gull nests. While gulls are not a species of concern for us (we don’t monitor them intensely), they are predators of the puffins and terns that we do monitor, and for that reason we want to know how many of each species nest on the island, in what ratio, and where specifically in the island they nest.

Here is supervisor Jenny with the length of the island behind her.
