Bison Bath

It’s a snowy prairie on the Bison & Prairie Dog Cam but oh, those summers are near. And as the weather warms, our bison will return to the watering hole for drinks, baths and play.

Did you know there are no buffalo in North America? Called buffalo by early American settlers, buffalo actually only live in Africa and Asia. What we have in North America are bison, though very similar and part of the same subfamily. “Unlike any buffalo species, the American bison sports a large shoulder hump and a massive head, ” (Live Science).

Fast Fact: Before human intervention, bison once ranged over much of North America, including central Canada and most of the interior U.S.  The only places free of bison were along the coasts and deserts. (NWF)
