An Idea For Movie Night: Frozen Planet
/ Post by Erica Wills of Polar Bears International
I’m a big fan of documentaries, and my favorite is the Planet Earth series produced by the BBC Natural History Unit, the Discovery Channel, and Alastair Fothergill, and narrated by David Attenborough. Though each of the following are an individual television series, I have personally considered them to be part of an overall “Planet Earth series” because they are all related in both topic and production team. I should note that this entire blog post is my opinion and is not a paid advertisement; I just wanted to share with you all the awesomeness that is Planet Earth!
The Blue Planet came first, focusing on the world’s oceans and the myriad of fascinating creatures that inhabit them. Following that was Planet Earth, which covered various habitats throughout the world (forests, plains, etc.); it is perhaps the best known of the individual television series. Life came next, and focused on various types of animals as opposed to habitats (mammals, reptiles, etc.).
The fourth in this “series” is my personal favorite: Frozen Planet. As its title implies, the Frozen Planet series focuses entirely on life in the Arctic and Antarctic. Seven episodes filled with polar bears, penguins, glaciers, and unparalleled beauty? Yes, please! Most recently, the BBC / Discovery team released Africa, focusing on (yup, you guessed it!) the wildlife throughout Africa.
All five of these documentary series are fantastic, and I highly recommend them for your enjoyment. With stunning cinematography, engaging story-lines, and truly fascinating information, these are documentaries the whole family will enjoy. And, because each series is independent of another, you can watch them in any order you like! I suggest you start with Frozen Planet since it’s my personal favorite and you get to see adorable polar bears and penguins running around in the snow. What more could you want for movie night?
