Drumroll Please!
We asked YOU to help name Rachel and Steve’s three osprey chicks! Well almost 200 entries came in and were tallied and selected by dedicated Osprey Cam moderators and camera operators. So let’s say hello (again!) to chicks Aspen, Sierra, and Bailey!
Sticking with tradition, the brood was named in honor of others: Aspen after Aspen Ellis of Project Puffin who spotted chick Little B first after last year’s clutch was raided by eagles; Bailey, for Florence Merriam Bailey, American nature writer and ornithologist. She worked with the National Audubon Society during its early years and is credited for writing the first known bird guide, Birds Through an Opera Glass, published in 1889; and Sierra, who I believe is named after environmental group Sierra Club.
Thank you for your submissions and being part of the explore community! Watch the Live Hog Island Osprey Cam every day for lots of wild action!
