A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. ―Josh Billings
Today we celebrate the founding of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in 1954. “They believed that a new kind of organization would strengthen the American humane movement, and they set up HSUS as the “National Humane Society,” in Washington, DC to ensure that it could play a strong role in national policy development concerning animal welfare. HSUS’s guiding principle was ratified by its national membership in 1956: ‘The Humane Society of the United States opposes and seeks to prevent all use or exploitation of animals that causes pain, suffering, or fear.'” (Wiki)
The Humane Society has contributed greatly to the country in its 60 years. in 2012 alone it:
- Provided Care for 100,000+ Animals, Including Pets Affected by Hurricane Sandy
- Spared 110 Chimps from Use as Research Subjects
