Congratulations all around! East Coast Assistance Dogs’ (ECAD) Mama Maya has given birth to 11 puppies – 4 girls and 7 boys! This is a first litter for the 2 1/2 year old yellow lab golden retriever mix.
ECAD chose Maya as a breeder for her stable temperament, ability to adjust to change, calm demeanor, and loyalty. Spenser, the father of this litter, is a stud dog from Guide Dog for the blind foundation who has bred for ECAD in the past. So far, 100% of his offspring have gone on to work as service and therapy dogs.
An ever-doting and protective Maya is an alert mom that counts her puppies, scanning the box and acknowledging each as if to tally them. She also divides the puppies into two groups when nursing, ensuring each has had its fill. Check out some pics of the puppies and then stop by Maya’s Live Cam to watch the little ones in action!
