Steve Comes in for a Landing

Our male Osprey, Steve, comes in for a graceful landing next to his life partner – Rachel.

In Live Cam developments, Audubon noted:

Many of you have remarked that Rachel is looking a bit larger, even bulging in recent days. What you’ve noticed might be a “brood patch”, an area of skin visible on the osprey’s underside where Rachel has lost feathers during nesting. Blood infuses the skin just under the surface, causing swelling and allowing her to transfer heat to her eggs during incubation. Both male and female osprey can have them!
