Explore the 5 Biomes: Forest
The forest biome first began to appear on Earth 420 million years ago, and the first forests were dominated by 40-foot-tall ferns!
In the last age of the dinosaurs, the Cretaceous Period, the first flowering plants appeared. Today, forests cover 1/3 of the Earth and come in three climates: Tropical, temperate and boreal (cool and cold forests in Siberia, Canada and Scandinavia). Read more at Berkeley.
Visit one of the Earth’s most ancient forests yourself, and head into the Redwoods Live Cam! Or spend the last days of autumn watching the Leaf Fall Cam in Massachusetts.
