Grasslands – flat plains covered in tall grass rather than large shrubs or trees – were created over 25 million years. They resulted from the mountains rising in North America and forests declining, and further expanded by the following ice age making prime, flat space for once-endangered bison. In Canada’s Grasslands National Park, the bison, prairie dogs, ferrets and eastern yellow-bellied racers roam their native habitat and visit the watering hole on the live cams.
