An otter has been spotted on Eastern Egg Rock! While these mammals may seem pretty cuddly, they can devastate seabird populations, particularly given the fact that they nest on the ground. For example, puffins make their burrows in the ground, between craggy sea rocks. It’s a pretty far swim – Eastern Egg, a treeless island, is 6 miles offshore – and seabirds on the rock already face predators including the Great Black-backed Gull. Hopefully our Eastern Egg team of interns and volunteers will be able to locate the otter before any more birds get hurt!
