Panda Enrichment

Just like our kids benefit from their time spent playing (as do we), so do Giant Pandas. One of our initiatives is to provide trees, enrichment toys and climbing structures for captive Giant Pandas, both cubs and adults. The goal of environmental enrichment is to improve or maintain an animal’s physical and psychological health by increasing range or number of species-specific behaviors. This means increasing positive utilization of the captive environment, which helps prevent or reduce the frequency of abnormal behaviors such as stereotypical behaviors, and increases the individual’s ability to cope with captive challenges.
