The Third Chick Has Arrived!
It seemed like a mischievous start for Chick #3.
Two days ago we all thought there was a clear pip and that the egg was cracking in half… in fact, one of its siblings’ empty shells had slipped over the egg and caused us all to think it was going to hatch at any moment.
Eventually Rachel removed the broken shell, and suddenly there was no pip to be seen on the third egg.
By Sunday evening concerned comments were pouring in: people wanting to know why the egg had not yet hatched, what its survival rate would be if it did hatch… if it would be okay. We answered as best we could, but the only real answer was— wait and see.
Then, this morning the third chick appeared in the quiet of the dark and gray dawn; it seemingly slipped into the room when no one was looking, and now it is here!
Family complete, we will have to watch as it struggles to catch up to its older siblings.
