There’s a small sail regatta circling our Osprey Nest right now. Pia, the youngest and third fledgling, is enjoying the view. We can almost see “her” in a polo shirt.
Our partners at Audubon filled us in: “Hi osprey viewers! You may have seen the small wooden sail and oar boats in Muscongus Bay around the osprey nest. This week Hog Island is in the midst of the Small Reach Regatta, a series of annual boat races that takes place in the bay. The camera may follow some of the activities of the races while our osprey family is out of the nest.”
The family all fledged a few weeks ago – you can see the highlight videos here – but Papa Steve and the kids are sticking around the nest until it’s time to head south in a couple weeks. They’ll stay in South America for the winter, as all the cool birds do. Learn more about the migration of our Ospreys at Audubon here.
