Panda Hugs And Looking Ahead

Funi, the beloved female panda at the Adelaide Zoo went through her second pseudo-pregnancy this year, which saw her experience all the things she would if actually pregnant – a normal behavior pattern in female pandas even when they have not successfully mated. This year she was given access to the den area where she created a nest, relaxed, and even “cared for” a small piece of hose – cradling it in a nursing position and holding it close while sleeping. Her behavior this year has her team excited about the prospects of a successful pregnancy next year.
