Hello everyone! My name is Aidan, and I will be your Beluga Boat’s senior intern for the next month or so!
I’m 18 years old, I’ve just recently graduated from high school, and I’ve been working with Captain Hayley as well as Explore.org and Polar Bears International for almost three weeks now. I’ve lived here in Churchill, Manitoba for 12 years, and before that, I was born, and partially raised, in Gander, Newfoundland.
I decided to work on the Beluga Boat, because it gave me a chance to see parts of Churchill that I’ve never got the chance to see before until now. My first day on the boat was also my first time seeing a beluga whale up close, and it was also even my first time being on a boat on the Churchill River (or any body of water for that matter) in about 6 or 7 years, and it was absolutely incredible. I loved every single minute of being out on that water surrounded by those beautiful belugas.
The social media aspect of the job was also a big thing for me because I’m going to university in September for film studies, so I was given the opportunity to make and post videos of my time out on the water with Hayley. Hopefully you enjoy having me around on camera as much as I enjoy being able to be on camera and getting to talk to you all a little about the beluga whales and even Churchill itself.
So far it’s shaping out to be a great summer, and I’ll see you all the next time I’m on the boat.
