Join Our Puffin Live Chat From Seal Island

UPDATE! The live chat will now take place Friday, June 10th at 6pm ET / 3pm PT.

Project Puffin’s Research Supervisors Keenan Yakola and Isabel Brofsky are back on Seal Island, spending the summer in the Gulf of Maine researching puffins, guillemots, cormorants, and the other seabirds we’ve grown to love. And on Thursday, June 9th they’ll join live to answer your questions! Tune into the Puffin Boulder Berm Cam at 10am PT / 1pm ET and post them in the comments section.

What’s life like on such a remote location? How does Keenan and his research team spend their days? What are some interesting tidbits we don’t know about these birds and other life on Seal Island? What can you tell us about the couple in the Puffin Burrow? Does it hurt when terns dive-bomb their heads? Join Keenan and Isabel at the Puffin Boulder Berm, post your seabird and research-related questions and interact with the experts. See you then!

Since the chat will be at 3am my time, i would like to post a question- What were the team’s impressions of any changes or differences when they first arrived at the Island this season?

    • http://explore.org/ explore.org

We’ll ask for you, and then stay tuned for the highlight!

      • Debbie Porges-Au

        Thanks, appreciate that.

Have you been able to locate Phoebe and Finn and Hope? What have you learned about our two lovebirds in the burrow?

    • anitakapita

Whoops! I didn’t read your question well enough so I ended up asking nearly the same thing…lol, we care, don’t we?

      • Doreen Mann

        More questions the better.

Hope was hatched July 3, 2013…Has there been any effort to see (even by accident) if he/she has returned? I know that it would be impossible to look for one bird…I guess I am a dreamer.

I posted these questions on the burrow cam forum- probably the wrong place. If you answer more questions from watchers in the future, here they are again:

Q: I’d like to know if you attempt to identify the various banded puffins on the island. I’m sure you don’t want to alarm the birds but banding them enables us to learn a lot about who they are and where they came from.

(Q2:) I also noticed an awful lot of the puffins I have seen on the LL are not banded. Are you going to try and band some of them for future research?

    Thanks so much!!

June 16th. I saw a lone puffin sitting on only one leg on the rocks this afternoon around 2:00 p.m. my time. Now, it is 7:15 p.m. and the poor puffin is still there. It is STUCK and needs a rescue. Can someone please help the puffin! It is getting dark and the puffin looks so lonesome.
