Meet Naomi, a shepherd mix from Francis Willis SPCA in Charleston, SC. Naomi was only 14 months old when she started her training, but sadly she could not handle the socialization (outings to Wal-mart, restaurants, etc.) as part of her training. She has been released from the training program and has been adopted by a wonderful couple, and will enjoy the good life of a cherished pet. While the outcome is not what had been hoped or planned for, making the difficult decision to release a dog in training from the program is always the best decision for the Veteran who is waiting and demonstrates the challenges faced when using shelter and rescue dogs. An investment is made in the dog, but more importantly, as a service dog provider, it is our responsibility to ensure the dog being trained is right for the job.
