A Kerfuffle on the Puffin Cam

Did you see the intruder on the Puffin Burrow Cam? If you missed it, check out this video highlight: http://youtu.be/w8ypnu5ddxg.

As Steve Kress explained, “It starts with some very exaggerated threats by the resident bird- shaking its head vigorously back and forth.  Eventually, one can see the resident grab the intruder by the nape on the back of its neck. At that moment, one can see the beak of an intruder which has no ridges in the orange upper mandible.  This is proof that this is a two or three year old puffin that was poking around and put itself into the wrong burrow… That the territorial resident actually grabbed the intruder and pulled it out physically- like a parent cat carrying a young one- points to the strength of the resident.”

Visit mom and chick, safely in the burrow on the Live Cam today.

What happened to the puffins? The burrow seems to be empty now, every time I’ve come back.

Puffin mom and chick are doing great! The cam is best seen during daylight time on the Eastern coast – http://explore.org/live-cams/player/puffin-burrow-cam
