Precious Cargo

/ Post by Pandas International

Have you ever wondered just how pandas are transported to and from the various zoos around the world? Well, ponder no longer. FedEx is up to the task.

Transporting a panda halfway around the world is no routine trip; it can be very traumatic so a lot of attention is paid to making the trip as comfortable and as fast as possible. The FedEx Express logistical operation includes ground and air transportation as well as custom-built transport containers for the pandas. The centerpiece of the transportation plan is a super fuel-efficient Boeing 777F dubbed the Panda Express which ensures a shortened travel time for the bears. Veterinarians are also aboard the flights to ensure constant care and attention.

This spring, the Panda Express will fly again as the Toronto welcomes two Giant Pandas to their zoo. Er Shun (female) and De Mao (male) will arrive in late March/early April at the FedEx Express tarmac at Toronto Pearson International Airport before being carefully transported to their quarantine area at the Zoo. These two pandas were selected to come to Canada as they are an excellent genetic match for breeding. They will spend five years in the Toronto Zoo before residing in the Calgary Zoo for an additional five years.
