Brown Bear, What Are You Wearing?
Brown bears earned the name “grizzly” bear because they have such a color variance in their coats. They can be light brown to an “almost black” dark brown, and occasionally are even silver in tone.
Brown bears shed in the spring but will regain their thick winter coat by fall. These animals rely upon both their massive winter fat deposits, as well as their thick winter coat, to stay warm in the lean cold months.
