Sockeye Salmon – There and Back Again

Each summer tens of millions of sockeye salmon leave the open waters of the North Pacific, driven to return to the exact spawning grounds in which they were hatched years earlier.

Sockeye salmon drive Katmai’s ecosystem, and bears will eat about 40 of them a day. The Brooks River hosts one of the greatest seasonal concentrations of brown bears anywhere on earth.
