Happy (3rd night of) Hanukkah!

This video was taken at the community school in Neve Shalom-Wahat al-Salam — named in both Hebrew and Arabic — children learn both languages at a very young age, thus cultivating a spirit of communication and mutual understanding.

Did You Know?

You can spell hanukkah in one of multiple ways. That’s because the spelling in English is a transliteration of the Hebrew phonetics. Transliteration is the writing of a letter or word using the closest corresponding letters of a different alphabet or language. From Jordan, we cross the Dead Sea heading northwest into Israel and Palestine. In Hebron, in the West Bank, a human rights organization called B’Tselem (“in the image of God”) provides children with video cameras to document their daily lives. B’Tselem hopes that this positive outlet will lessen violence between Palestinians and Jews. B’Tselem’s mission is “to document and educate the Israeli public and policymakers about human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, combat the phenomenon of denial prevalent among the Israeli public, and help create a human rights culture in Israel.”
