350,000 gallons of water and over 2,000 fish and animals fill the tropical reef tank at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, and catching the live cam at feeding time is really something to see! Remember those old screen savers of cartoon aquariums? This beats the pants off that! Did you know - the Whitetip Reef Shark first appeared on the planet two years after dinosaurs’ extinction? In Hawaii they are regarded by some people as a guardian spirit, aumakua. Unlike the Blacktip Reef Shark, Giant grouper prey on the Whitetip, which is one of the reasons it is near-threatened and one of the protected species at the aquarium.
Check out the Aquarium’s website for more “amazing facts,” and find out how you can dive in the tank yourself!
